Lightcatcher Afternoon

Valley Arts Group members are invited to attend Images of Resilience: Chicana/o Art and its Mexican Roots, at the Whatcom Museum’s Lightcatcher Building on March 30, 2017.  The exhibition explores the development of Chicana/o art, from its beginnings La Alameda, 58in Mexican art of the early 1900s, to the Chicana/o movement of the 1960s and ’70s, to its relevance today.  Available for viewing upstairs will be The Katrina Decade: Images of an Altered City, a photo exhibition featuring the haunting black-and-white images of New Orleans based photographer David G. Spielman.

The docent led tour will begin at 1:30 PM.  The Artifacts Cafe and Wine Bar will be open for lunch for those wishing to meet before the tour.  Sign-up sheets will be available at the March 11 open house.

VALLEY ARTS OPEN HOUSE

Valley Arts Group is pleased to announce an OPEN HOUSE AT THE BARN on Saturday, March 11, 2017, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, downstairs at the Creekside Barn (YMCA entrance).

Join us for an opportunity to view the newest exhibit of original art by Sudden Valley artists and to meet the local artists – your neighbors! – who produced it.  There will be food and fun, with drawings for door prizes – including some original art pieces!

Light refreshments will be provided by VAG members and KEN’S COZY KITCHEN will be open for purchase of beverages and/or more substantial snacks.

Come for the art!  Come for the food!  Come for the company!  Come for the fun!

Batik Workshop

VAG President Gwen Callahan hosted a fun “Watercolor Batik” how-to workshop at her home in Sudden Valley on Wednesday, January 25. Members attending, including Beryl Adams, Penny Bamford, Carol McMillan, Karen Peter, Stephanie Strong, and Rèka Zoltàn, spent a delightful afternoon playing with new art techniques and went home with a newly created batik piece.

January 2017 Exhibit

The Valley Arts Group invites you to come see our brand new exhibit of original art by Sudden Valley artists at the Creekside (YMCA) Barn. Beautiful new artwork – some by brand new members whose work we’ve not seen here before!

Enjoy a warm drink and/or lunch from Ken’s Cozy Kitchen while you relax with friends and browse the new artwork!

We have two featured artists, Karen Peter and Virginia Heaven. Karen’s watercolor paintings are on display at Sudden Valley’s Creekside (YMCA) Barn. Virginia’s paintings will be installed soon and at the Sudden Valley Clubhouse.

Please visit ValleyArtsGroup.org to see a sampling of their work, as well as the work of our other members.

Tour of the Colorfast Exhibition

Gwen, Alice, Christine, Danila and Robbie enjoyed a fun and informative tour at the Lightcatcher Museum today with our docent, Mike DeAngelo. It was an amazing show, especially considering the amount of work each artist went through to install their work for a short three month exhibition. The photos don’t do it justice.
